There are different types of Data Analytics which makes it cover a wide range of tasks. This richness in the area needs different skills and capabilities. Based on my experience, I believe that there are two main types of skills needed for a person working in Data Analytics. Technical/business skills and soft skills, both are equally important.
In this article I will cover some technical skills and will share with you the soft skills in my blog next week.
Data analytics projects fall within the 4 types of Analytics (Descriptive, Diagnostic, Predictive and Prescriptive) and generally go through one or more of the below activities:
- Problem structuring
- Data engineering
- Data science and modelling
- Automation and robotics
- Visualisation to deliver a message
Those activities require technical and business roles. So if you are looking into the capabilities you need to build in a team, it is worth considering data engineers, data scientists, data visualisation specialist and more. Also, Data Analytics projects are managed in an Agile methodology which means you have a whole set of roles like Product Owners, Scrum Masters and others. Those are few roles to consider, it really depends on the project, the team skills and the organisation when deciding your team capabilities and skills.
Picking the right technology to use is another technical skill. There are many tools in the market, it is important to know which to use when and in what type of organisation.
What has been your Data Analytics experience? What roles have you seen and think are essential for projects?
As always, looking forward to hearing your experience!
